A proud South Kaantju and Yam Islander graduate, Elijah David was one of the handful of mid-year graduates celebrated at the recent sashing ceremony at the University of Queensland (UQ). Having transitioned from Cairns to pursue his education, Elijah recently earned a Bachelor of Business Management with a Marketing major.
Reflecting on his time at UQ, Elijah highlighted the welcoming and supportive atmosphere, particularly within the ATSIS Unit. His involvement in the Goorie Berrimpa Indigenous Student Collective, including participation in social sports and serving as a student representative, significantly contributed to his overall positive experience.
In 2022, Elijah took on the role of student representative, where he received invaluable support from the ATSIS Unit. “In semester one of 2022, when I was on the board as a student representative, they welcomed me with open arms and supported me throughout my volunteer experience,” he shared.
Elijah believes that his experiences at UQ will greatly benefit his future endeavours. He views his volunteer work and community involvement as valuable assets that will support his goal of pursuing a corporate career. “Gaining relevant experiences is crucial for strengthening my resume and enhancing my job prospects,” Elijah emphasised. He is determined to leverage the skills and connections he developed at UQ as he takes the next steps in his professional journey.
The ATSIS Unit at UQ is proud to have supported Elijah throughout his academic journey and wishes him all the best in his future endeavours.
